It’s Birthday Monday! (75)

Hello Readers! Happy Monday, I hope you had great week.

I’m finally back to home. I honestly don’t like to visit my hometown for more than a week. I love comfort of my home. And It’s my birthday today! It was lovely to find 5 book post at my doorstep. It just made my day.

Last week I read only 1 book, here is what I read and what I’m planning to read this week-

Currently Reading-

For once, Kate Peters would like a happy, family Christmas; the kind of Christmas seen in the movies. She wants harmony and happiness, smiling, glowing faces, tables groaning with food, carol singing around the tree. She wants love, kindness, and goodwill to all men, especially in her own house. What she doesn’t want is drama. Absolutely no drama, whatsoever.
But what she gets is three stroppy children, two equally stroppy
grandmothers, a husband who can’t manage to change a lightbulb, and Pepe the poodle. It’s no wonder she feels unappreciated, overworked, and ignored. At the end of her tinsel-coated tether, and with the only Christmas spirit being in the form of a bottle of raspberry gin, Kate decides to leave them to it, and see how they manage without her.

I’m just 20% into the book and I already loved the family dynamic and tricky situation of 2 mothers at Kate’s place for Christmas week.

Next This Week-

Every year, Nerene’s village shelters in Varasay City while the surrounding lands flood. Yet Varasay only protects those who obey its laws, and after Nerene’s boyfriend Sande starts a riot, he’s in danger of being cast out. Nerene manages to contact Lord Osperacy, a traveling thief with enough power and money to save Sande, but he’ll only help Nerene if she agrees to work for him.
Eager to save her boyfriend, Nerene takes the job. Yet working for Lord Osperacy means leaving Sande behind in Varasay City. It also means tolerating Lord Osperacy’s children who have a supernatural ability to make others do as they wish, an ability the family uses to manipulate and steal.
Just as Nerene begins to despair that she’ll never see Sande again, she meets Cressit, a wealthy, charming musician. Cressit offers to help Nerene reunite with Sande, but she’s not sure he can be trusted. He has a strange interest in the Osperacy family, and he seems to know more about Nerene than he should.
Even worse, the more time Nerene spends with Cressit, the less she thinks about Sande…

when author contacted saying, ‘It takes place in a flooded world and has some steampunk elements, explores social justice and the nature of power, and there is a tidbit of mermaid lore‘ how could I say no! It sounds interesting and I cannot wait to read it.
